GST E-Invoice Services Pause This Weekend: What to Finish Before 31 October
Updated: 30 October 2026 · Tax Filing Guru Editorial Team
If your GST team relies on e-invoice downloads or automatically populated GSTR-1 data over the weekend, plan ahead. GSTN has announced maintenance from 9:00 AM IST on Saturday, 31 October, to 1:00 PM IST on Sunday, 1 November 2026. Its official advisory identifies specific services that will be temporarily unavailable.
The key distinction is scope. The notice names data retrieval and processing from Invoice Registration Portals (IRPs), GSTR-1 auto-population, and JSON downloads through the portal and APIs. It does not state that all IRPs will stop generating Invoice Reference Numbers (IRNs). Check the status of the particular IRP you use before drawing that conclusion.
What is affected during the maintenance window?
GSTN lists three affected functions: e-invoice data retrieval and processing from IRPs, auto-population of e-invoice details in GSTR-1, and e-invoice JSON downloads through the portal and APIs. This is scheduled infrastructure work, not an announced change to the e-invoicing rules or return due dates.
The advisory says affected services are expected to resume after maintenance. Treat 1:00 PM on 1 November as the scheduled end, and confirm actual availability before starting a time-sensitive reconciliation or download.
Before 9:00 AM on 31 October: a practical checklist
- Download files you need. Export available e-invoice JSON data needed for weekend accounting, customer queries or reconciliation. Keep the files in your normal controlled storage.
- Reconcile records already in hand. Compare the invoices in your accounting system with IRNs and GST data you have retrieved. Record any gaps so they can be checked after service resumes.
- Tell your invoicing and finance teams. Share the window and the three affected functions. If your software uses portal APIs or expects GSTR-1 data to appear promptly, plan for a delay.
- Check your IRP separately. The GSTN notice does not establish a universal IRN-generation outage. Your IRP's own advisory and live status are the appropriate sources for its availability.
What to check after services return
Once the portal functions are available, retrieve outstanding data and confirm that e-invoice details expected in GSTR-1 have populated correctly. Compare document numbers, dates, taxable values, tax amounts and IRNs with your source records. Resolve differences before filing a return; do not assume that delayed auto-population means an invoice never existed.
If a download or API call fails during the window, retain the error and retry after GSTN confirms restoration. For a technical issue that persists, GSTN directs users to its self-service support portal.
The point for businesses
This is a short operational notice with a useful deadline: get the data you need before Saturday morning and verify your records again after the scheduled maintenance. Avoid telling customers that all invoicing has stopped unless your actual IRP confirms a separate outage.
