Delhi VAT Registration is required for persons involved in the sales of goods in the State of Delhi. The Delhi VAT Registration, VAT Tax Rates, VAT Return Filing and VAT Payments is determined by the Delhi Value Added Tax Act, 2004. As per Indian Legislation, each of the State in India can enact a separate VAT Act for the state based on the guidelines of the Empowered Committee to ensure uniformity of law across the Country. Therefore, the VAT Regulations and Procedure in Delhi is determined by the Delhi Value Added Tax Act, 2004.

Delhi VAT Registration is mandatory for dealers in Delhi having a turnover of over Rs.20 lakhs in the current financial year or those dealers involved in the sale or manufacturing of goods originating from outside the state. Also, any person who is a dealer or intends to be a dealer may also obtain VAT Registration voluntarily under Section 18 of Delhi VAT Act, 2004.

Once a Delhi VAT Registration is approved, the tax department will issue a Tax Identification Number (TIN Number), which can be used for all communication pertaining to the VAT Registration.
